Individual counselling is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained counsellor/therapist. This happens in a safe, caring and confidential environment. In one-on-one session, clients have the opportunity to explore their feelings, beliefs, behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.

In Stanhope, most clients start their Individual Counselling sessions after having completed the 4 week Information Programme. By that time, clients will have aquired knowledge about alcohol abuse and addiction. They will be able to interpret their own situation better and might feel the need for Counselling sessions. If they so wish, they will be assigned a Counsellor whom they will meet with for a number of sessions.
