The Day Programme is an outpatient treatment programme for problem drinkers. Clients may also have had problems with gambling and/or substance abuse. It is a 12 week programme, consisting of 3 half days per week: Tuesdays 2:15pm - 3:45pm, Thursdays 9:30am - 12:30pm and Fridays 9:30am - 12:30pm.
How do I get a place on the programme?
Generally, clients on this programme will have completed our Information Programme first. We believe that the lectures give clients a good foundation of knowledge to enable them to use the Day Programme more effectively. Following the Informtion Programme, clients wishing to attend the Day Programme will be offered one to one appointments with one of our counsellors to carry out a comprehensive assessment.
What is the purpose of this programme?
This programme is designed to support Problem Drinkers who have chosen total abstinence as the way to resolve their problem.
What happens in this programme?
The problem drinkers group focuses on supporting clients to develop a greater awareness of the extent of their problem with alcohol, the effect it has on their own life and the lives of those close to them. Group Therapy (Tuesday afternoon) offers clients a safe place to discuss the struggles and successes they experience in recovery. Thursdays will consist of lectures/workshop. Fridays will offer holistic treatment, i.e. Art Therapy, Stress Management, Mindfulness etc.
What is expected of the participants?
Client are asked to attend every week for 12 weeeks as continuity is important, not just for the individuals concerned but also for the effectiveness of the group. Should some serious problem arise and you know in advance that you will not be able to attend, please phone in advance to let your facilitators know. Confidentiality for all clients is an absolute requirement. You must not disclose the identity of or information about anybody else you meet in this programme.
How many people will be in each group?
The size of each group will vary, approximately 6-8 clients.
What are the requirements for admission to this programme?
Clients are required to be free from alcohol, gambling and all mood altering substances for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to commencing the programme. All medication - presrcribed and non-prescribed - will be assessed prior to acceptance to the programme.
What happens if a problem drinker relapses during this programme?
If a client drinks or takes mood altering substances during the 12 weeks of the Day Programme, he/she is required to make this known to the group facilitator or counsellor before returning to the next session of the programme.
Following the successful completion of the programme, clients will be eligible for our Aftercare Programme and/or Relapse Prevention Programme.
